A Sacred Ramayana Site in Sri Lanka’s Hill Country
Located near Nuwara Eliya, surrounded by lush forests, flowing streams, and misty mountains, Seetha Amman Temple is one of the most spiritually significant Hindu temples in Sri Lanka. Deeply connected to the Ramayana, this sacred site attracts devotees, spiritual seekers, and cultural travellers from around the world.
Seetha Amman Temple is beautifully adorned with colourful statues and traditional South Indian architectural elements. The main shrine is dedicated to Sita Devi, accompanied by idols of Lord Rama, Lord Lakshmana, and Lord Hanuman. The vibrant colours, detailed carvings, and serene surroundings create a deeply spiritual and welcoming environment.
Despite its modest size, the temple’s atmosphere is powerful, peaceful, and emotionally moving for many visitors.
The temple becomes especially vibrant during Ram Navami, Navaratri, and other Hindu festivals. During these times, special pujas, chanting, and rituals are conducted, drawing devotees from across Sri Lanka and abroad. Even on regular days, daily rituals take place, and visitors are welcome to observe respectfully.
Visitors are advised to dress modestly, covering shoulders and knees, and to remove footwear before entering the temple premises. Photography may be restricted in certain areas, so it is best to check before taking pictures. Early mornings are ideal for a quieter, more spiritual experience.
