A Sacred Stop in Sri Lanka’s Hill Country
Set amidst the misty hills and flowing waterfalls of Sri Lanka’s central highlands, Shree Bhakta Hanuman Kovil is one of the most spiritually significant Hindu temples on the island. Located along the scenic Kandy–Nuwara Eliya road near Ramboda, this revered kovil attracts devotees, spiritual seekers, and curious travellers from around the world.
The most striking feature of the temple is the towering Hanuman statue, standing majestically against the backdrop of misty mountains and tea plantations. The statue symbolises strength and unwavering devotion and is visible from a distance as travellers approach Ramboda.

Ramboda itself is known for its cool climate, winding mountain roads, and attractions such as Ramboda Falls and nearby tea estates. Many travellers stop at the temple while journeying between Kandy and Nuwara Eliya, making it an easy and rewarding addition to a hill country itinerary.
The elevated position of the temple offers breathtaking views of valleys and mountains, making it a favourite spot for photography as well as quiet contemplation.
Shree Bhakta Hanuman Kovil becomes especially vibrant during Hindu festivals, particularly Hanuman Jayanti and important Ramayana-related observances. During these times, the temple hosts special pujas, chanting, and offerings, drawing large numbers of devotees.
Even outside festival periods, daily rituals take place, and visitors are welcome to observe or participate respectfully in prayers.
Visitors are encouraged to dress modestly when entering the temple, covering shoulders and knees as a sign of respect. Footwear should be removed before entering sacred areas. Photography may be restricted in certain sections, so it is best to check with temple staff before taking photos.
Early mornings and late afternoons are ideal times to visit, as the weather is cooler and the lighting enhances the scenic beauty of the surroundings.
